Headlines for individual college’s materials and for more serious or professional applications where Veneer is not appropriate. The condensed version of Avenir was chosen to create the same bold impact as Veneer. Used most often in all caps.
For situations where these fonts are not available, Arial should be used.
The dynamic yellow stripe represents a path that lights the way to the future while leaving behind a lasting legacy. The path is energetic, versatile and can be used in varying thickness, while always maintaining a consistent angle. Both sides of the path must be visible for the message to remain constant. The singular path always bleeds off in both directions. Represents the collective path and forward momentum of NKU. Specific uses are outlined on the photography principles page. The angle of the path is always 60°.
Smaller paths of light are used as a pattern to represent dynamic momentum of many people working together. Used minimally and without the main light path. Always moving upward. Six light paths designate the six colleges in the following alphabetic order:
The six light paths can flex dynamically, in that the heights can change (the second path does not always have to be the highest). The angle and space between paths are always consistent.
These illustrations have been created with light/fire copy to be used across any applications. The art pieces are energetic, add personalization and are a conversational call to action.
The main colors are gold, white and black. These three main colors become iconic to NKU.

The collage grid is based off the light path surrounded by multiple other (thinner) lines moving in the same direction. This grid is used as a cropping device for a collage of photography to highlight various aspects or parts of NKU.
Maintaining the grid across applications will create a visual uniformity and structure. Breaking the grid in purposeful ways with expressive typography or dynamic action shots will help add visual interest.
The light path is a dynamic and versatile tool that can be used in several different ways.
The light path may be used as a cropping device (with gold surrounding it) and in this specific instance the “path” becomes the image. Never crop an image into the light path without using a yellow flood that surrounds the image.
The light path may also be used as an opaque shape that crops part of an image (for use when the path becomes a holding device for body copy). Both sides of the path must always be visible to never lose its meaning.
Not every application or page has to use the light path.
*Photography above is vision for layout and style, diverse ages/gender and race should always be included.
The angular grid may be used as a cropping device for a collage of photography to highlight various aspects or parts of NKU. Varying color with black and white creates separation of the grid. Varying architecture and people creates visual interest.
Black and White photography may be used in collages to help separate the images and highlight the grid pattern. Black and white photograpy is also used to add hints of the grey color palette as well as to create variation in photography heavy applications. Use sparingly.
